– Global specialty insurance and reinsurance company chooses Rockefeller Center address for New York City offices
– Rockefeller Group closes nearly 400,000 square feet of new leases and renewals at 1221 Avenue of the Americas since 2016 completion of lobby and plaza renovations
NEW YORK, January 20, 2017 – Rockefeller Group today announced that a wholly-owned subsidiary of Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. (“Endurance”), has completed a 143,000-square-foot lease at 1221 Avenue of the Americas, the modern Rockefeller Center skyscraper located on the west side of Sixth Avenue between 48th and 49th Streets.
Endurance will occupy three tower floors in the building, taking possession of the 18th and 19th floors in the first quarter of 2017 and the 17th floor in early 2021. Dana Pike of George Comfort & Sons represented the tenant in lease negotiations. Ed Guiltinan, Senior Vice President and head of leasing in New York for Rockefeller Group, led lease negotiations on behalf of the building ownership.
The Endurance lease brings the total square footage of new leases and renewals at 1221 Avenue of the Americas to nearly 400,000 square feet since the completion in early 2016 of a major capital improvement program designed by Moed de Armas & Shannon. The renovations to the building included new entrances, side-street plazas with outdoor seating, a new street-level façade, interior stonework and lobby artwork by Mark Bradford. Occupancy in the 2.6-million-square-foot building stands at approximately 95 percent, with only three full floors and one partial floor available.
“We are thrilled to add Endurance to the impressive and diverse tenant roster at 1221,” said Mr. Guiltinan. “Avenue of the Americas has long-been recognized as an international address, and we are pleased that the building continues to be a location of choice for leading global businesses across multiple sectors, from financial services, professional services and insurance, to media and entertainment.”
First developed by Rockefeller Group in partnership with McGraw-Hill, 1221 Avenue of the Americas was designed by Harrison Abramovitz & Harris, the architects for all of Rockefeller Center. The 50-story building is distinguished by its large, efficient floor plates and its expansive open-air plazas with public seating that surround the building on all sides. It achieved Platinum-level Wired Certification from WiredNYC, an organization that ranks properties by their technology infrastructure, and it is among the largest buildings in Manhattan to achieve LEED®-EB certification (LEED-Silver, 2014) by the U.S. Green Building Council.
